Jaw bone augmentation when there is insufficient bone to place an implant.
Treatment
If there is too little jawbone to place an implant securely, we augment the bone. Sometimes this is done beforehand, sometimes at the same time as placing the implant. Bone augmentation is always tailored to the individual.
You will be referred by your dentist. We will assess your situation and take X-rays. Based on this, we will draw up a personalised treatment plan.
The implant is inserted into the jaw under local anaesthetic.
The implant fuses with the jawbone. This takes longer if bone grafting is required.
Your own dentist will fit the permanent crown and carry out regular check-ups.
Dental implants are not usually covered by basic health insurance. There are exceptions, for example in the case of a serious congenital abnormality, following an accident or in the case of certain medical conditions. In such cases, prior authorisation from the health insurer is required.
Many supplementary dental insurance policies cover part of the costs. The amount varies considerably depending on the insurer and the policy.
